Cheapest place to buy perfume in the UK
The widest price range in retail, and the one where a very low price is a warning rather than a win.
Concentration first, price second
Before comparing anything, check you are comparing the same product. The same fragrance name is sold in several concentrations, and they are genuinely different products at genuinely different prices:
| Name | Roughly means |
|---|---|
| Eau de Cologne | Lightest, shortest lasting |
| Eau de Toilette (EDT) | Lighter concentration, common and cheaper |
| Eau de Parfum (EDP) | Stronger, lasts longer, costs more |
| Parfum / Extrait | Strongest concentration, most expensive |
A "bargain" is very often simply the EDT where you were looking at the EDP. Check the concentration and the bottle size together — both appear on the listing, and both change the price substantially.
The grey market
A large share of discounted perfume online is grey-market stock: genuine product imported outside the brand's official distribution. It is legal to sell, and it is why discount fragrance sites can beat department stores consistently.
The trade-off is that you lose the brand's own guarantees, packaging may differ, and stock can be older. For most buyers that is an acceptable trade for a real saving — but it is a trade, and worth making knowingly.
How to compare without getting caught out
- Match name, concentration and millilitres before comparing any price.
- Check the seller, not just the listing. On marketplaces the seller changes while the listing stays.
- Treat gift sets separately — they bundle smaller sizes and rarely compare cleanly on price.
- Note that batch codes exist: enthusiasts use them to check production dates, which is a useful signal on older stock.
- Be wary of unusually large bottles of a fragrance not normally sold in that size.
When it is genuinely cheaper
Real savings in this category cluster around discontinued or reformulated fragrances, end-of-line gift sets after Christmas, and the grey-market discounters. Department store prices are close to the brand's intended price and rarely move far.
