The gas cylinder is the real product
A starter machine comes with a cylinder, and once it runs out you exchange it. The exchange price, and how easily you can get to somewhere that does exchanges, is what the thing actually costs to own.
Buying a fresh cylinder outright rather than exchanging is considerably more expensive, so the exchange scheme is not optional in practice.
Cylinder and bottle compatibility differs across the range
Newer machines use a different cylinder connection from older ones, and bottles are not universally interchangeable either. If you are replacing an older machine, existing cylinders and bottles may not fit the new one — which changes the real cost of switching.
Bundles are usually about bottles and gas
Machine bundles typically add a spare cylinder or extra bottles. A spare cylinder is genuinely useful because it means you are never without gas while exchanging. Extra bottles are cheap and frequently padding.
